The Typical Online Piano Course
The typical online piano course usually consists of several instructional books which come as pdf files that can be printed out if you wish. They will also come with some video and/or audio files so you can hear and see what you are supposed to be playing as you work through the books.
There are many different courses but there are only a few good ones that are worth while purchasing. We have downloaded and tested many of these courses and have found that two of them are outstanding. They easy to follow and tend to get results for beginners and intermediate players alike.
The best two downloadable online courses are Rocket Piano and Piano For All.
Rocket piano is really well presented, it contains video clips and audio clips as well as 6 instructional books. It will take you from absolute beginners to a fairly high level of playing. If you have some experience already you can rush through the lessons until you get to your level and then progress as you need to. The course will teach you how to read music and how to improvise without music or by using chord charts. You get taught a little of many styles, classical, jazz, blues tock gospel etc. The course comes with special software to help you learn (metronome, learning games, ear training etc) and for a small extra fee the course can be mailed to you in physical form - DVD, CDs and Books.
The other course worthwhile mentioning is Piano for All. This is not as well presented and glitzy as rocket piano but the content is pure gold. It will take you from the very basics and show you how to play by ear and improvise with a new system of instruction that has you learning to read music at the same time as you are playing and learning to improvise in many different genres. The course is really complete with 10 ebooks, 200 video files and over 500 audio files. The books will teach you all styles... classical blues, gospel, jazz, ballads etc. Although this course isn't as well presented as the more popular Rocket piano, as far as the content goes it is far superior and is highly recommended.
