There are a few downloadable piano courses available on the internet which are ideal for beginners and in most cases will take you from a basic beginners level to a fairly advanced level allowing you to progress at your own pace. Most include books video and audio files and will show you how to read music and how to play by ear and improvise as well - Highly recommended.

There are huge amounts of teach yourself piano books and videos available in all book stores and music shops. Some are better than others. The main drawback with books is that you have no reference as you cant see exactly how you are supposed to e playing. This is obviously a lot easier when there are videos accompanying the books. A quick search at amazon will reveal a huge selection of books on how to learn piano.

You can get traditional piano lessons from a professional teacher but these tend to be very expensive. Also the progress you will make as a beginner will be A LOT slower when you go to private lessons. The best method I know of learning is to start with a downloadable interactive piano learning course and once you have attained an intermediate level then you can start to attend regular lessons with a professional for perfecting your style.
